Chocolate and Short
Stories Workshop
19th September 2009
Bridge House had first in a
series of one-day workshops designed to show you how to write a short story for
Bridge House. It was a great chance for writers to meet one another and the
Bridge House team and of course for us to meet some of you!
The Workshop was held at
Slatterly's, Whitefield, Manchester. A
great place for a workshop!
Slatterly's produce wonderful
cakes and chocolates, and there was a chance during the day to browse
their tempting display! The day course ran from 10 - 4 and included morning coffee, a buffet lunch and afternoon tea.
Workshop Leader was Gill James,
experienced writer and editor, university lecturer in creative writing
with over 30 books in print. She went through some basic and more advanced
exercises in how to bring together a short story.
We encouraged the authors to start a new short story and as a follow-up we're happy to critique the stories once completed. Although we were unable to do so this time, we'd like to set aside some time at future workshops for some one to one feedback on stories sent in advance.

Because this was our first workshop
we welcomed feedback from those that attended as we intend to host more
workshops, with you in mind. So if you have any particular workshop
requirements then please feel free to use the contact form with your
suggestions, where you live, if you know of people that would be happy to take
part, your local writing groups for example, particular interests, e.g. writing
for children.
And as well as the day workshops
we plan to set up some residential ones… so watch this space…
