Short Story Critiquing
We are delighted to announce the First Short Story Winners!

We received a large number of entries to the first Bridge House Short Story Competition 2009 and had great pleasure in contacting the three lucky winners. The standard was so high we have decided that each of these stories will be published in future anthologies!

First Place        Sandra Morgan  Dancing To Lili Marlene

Second Place   Susan Stern  I Never Wear Black

Third Place       Carol Croxton  When Angels Weep

Sandra Morgan the winner!

Dancing to Lily Marlene is a wonderfully atmospheric story that inspired the judges for its sense of melancholy. Sandra says it was inspired by a family holiday, and impish Maisie is one of her own grandchildren.  Late in the evenings, with light spilling from balconies, someone unseen played old war tunes on a harmonica.  One night her husband  whistled Lili Marlene and straightaway, back it came on the harmonica.  It was a special moment and she said she knew a story would evolve from it.
